Inshore Boats | All Weather BoatAt the Beach

A selection of scenes that captured the sights of Moelfre Lifeboat Day 2007, on 18th August.

The Inshore Lifeboats

Moelfre has two lifeboats, a D-class inshore lifeboat, Kingsand, and a larger all-weather lifeboat, the Robert and Violet.  The inshore boat was launched first and the first picture shows it being winched down the slipway in its cage, just as it is about to reach the water.  During the display, it was joined by a second D-class boat.  In the pictures below, Kingsand is orange and numbered D-532.  The other boat is orange and grey and is numbered D-466.

The All Weather Boat

Before the launch, we had an opportunity to look around the station and to see inside the boat.

The launch of the Robert and Violet, Moelfre's Tyne Class All Weather Lifeboat numbered 47-013, took most of the spectators by surprise, as there were no maroons this year.  I just about managed to photograph it as it hit the water and the first 3 pictures below capture the launch.  A glance at the Lifeboat Day 2006 page will show just how different the weather was this year.

From our viewing position on the rocks just below the Seawatch Centre, we had an excellent view of the display and manoeuvres and I was able to take several pictures showing the crew.

At the Beach

This year we were on the beach close to the water's edge to see the lifeboat in the bay.
