The Hotel on 18th January 2009 The Hotel on 11th January 2009 Views from the Hotel on 18th January It was built on part of the site of the old UKAEA RD4 building that was demolished in 2004. The former building was originally constructed as part of the Royal Ordnance Factory in about 1939-40. Pictures of its demolition can be found on the website run by former students of the UKAEA Risley Apprentice Training School >>>here (external link, opens in new browser window). It was also great to be sent some photos by Catherine the General Manager of the Hotel, as construction neared completion in early December. Thanks Catherine! Site Preparation
When the former UKAEA building was demolished, the site was left until it was prepared for the hotel. By the end of 2007, the hotel site had been marked out and fenced off. The first two photos in this gallery were taken in 2007. During the early months of 2008, there were few signs of construction, as work focused on the foundations and services. Construction Construction began in earnest during May 2008.
