Brainwave
Santa Dash
12th December 2010
The Santa Dash
A brand new event, the Santa Dash 5K Fun
Run on 12th December 2010 was in support of Brainwave, the national charity
which opened its 3rd centre in Birchwood in 2009. It was a sight to see,
as the runners and walkers wearing Santa suits made their way from the shopping
centre, past the railway station, alongside Birchwood Brook, into the park and
back past the fire station, walled garden and high school. It was
supported by local organisations and businesses such as Birchwood Lions,
Spectrum Striders Running Club, Birchwood Shopping Centre and The Peacock.
I was chief marshal for the event and I would like to thank all of the marshal
volunteers who were from Chester University, Birchwood Lions and Spectrum
Striders.
Brainwave
Brainwave is a UK charity that provides care for children with
disabilities and their families. Originally established in the south west
of England they opened their north west centre in Birchwood in 2009.
Brainwave works with families to deliver individual home-based therapy and
exercise programmes that help children with disabilities and developmental delay
to achieve their potential. This can be anything from walking to
recognising numbers. Brainwave looks after a whole range of children with
conditions including Cerebral Palsy, Down's Syndrome and Autism.
Visitors
Attending the event were Warrington
Wolves star Lee Mitchell, local paralympic athlete Adrian Derbyshire who is
British wheelchair fencing champion and will be representing Great Britain at
the Paralympic Gamers in London 2012 and Christine Cryne, Chief Executive
Officer of Brainwave. Entertainment was provided by Pete Pinnington from
107.2 Wire FM.
Photographs
This gallery is just a fraction of those that I took on the day. I will also be making the most of the photos I took
available to Brainwave and The Birchwood Shopping
Centre. In addition, I took several photos of specific people and groups
- if I took any
of you, please get in touch and I will email the photo(s) to you. The
photos are also available on Facebook - check out the pages for The Brainwave
Centre and The Peacock where some of the pictures are shared.
